Curriculum: Opening the World of Learning

Opening the World of Learning (OWL) © 2014, 2011 is a comprehensive Pre-K curriculum that prepares children for kindergarten with ongoing assessment of research-based success predictors and playful, purposeful, and personalized instruction. Instructional design and strategies set OWL apart. All parts of the day are considered opportunities for learning. OWL is built upon a foundation of critical content area concept development. Children are able to connect content to their experiences through the use of essential questions, which takes them beyond rote learning and leads to thoughtful, reflective learning. (SAVVAS, 2021).

Social Emotional Learning: SEL

Social and emotional learning (SEL) is an integral part of education and human development. SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions. (CASEL, 2021).

Here in Pre-K 4 our learning is focused around the social and emotional development of your student. I believe that children learn through purposeful play activities and interaction with others. In the Pre-K 4 classroom, we create a safe and productive learning environment through the development of positive, meaningful relationships. The focus on social emotional learning allows your student to build skills that will prepare them for their future.

Let's Talk about SeeSaw

We are so excited to be apart of your child’s educational journey here at ICS! In Pre-K 4 we use Seesaw to share what is happening in our class throughout the year.

What is Seesaw? Seesaw is an amazing app that allows your child to share what they are learning in the classroom through daily activities, drawings, notes, pictures, and videos! Your child documents their own learning through the online learning journal with endless possibilities!

What we love most about Seesaw is that it creates a communication triangle, not only between you as parents and the teacher - but also with your student!
