September 3, 2010 Matt Gillen To Head Boys’ Basketball Matt Gillen, father of three ICS students, Sam (7th), Carly (3rd), and Mattison (Kinder), announced to the Athletic Commission this week that he would accept the position of ICS’s Head Boys’ Basketball coach. Matt has been working with the ICS basketball program for years and coached last year with head coach, Mike Kelley. Matt has chaired the ICS 3 on 3 with his wife, Jevanie, and served on the Auction Committee in 2007. Matt and his wife, Jevanie, and their four children (Connor is a sophomore at M-R) received the “Distinguished Trojan Award” at this year’s auction held on August 14. The award is presented annually to an ICS family for their selfless dedication through time, talents, and treasures. We are grateful for Matt accepting the head coaching position and know that he will bring a new dimension to the program. The boys’ opening game will be held on Tuesday, November 2nd at Abingdon beginning at 5:30 p.m. James J. Toal Awardees to Visit ICS On Sunday, September 19th the Toal Banquet will be held to honor Connie Kay Gavin and David Gillen, 2010 awardees and ICS graduates, ’66 & ’71 respectively. On Monday morning, September 20, the awardees will be introduced to the school community at the close of Mass. (School Mass will fall on Monday of this week instead of Wednesday.) After Mass the students in grades 6-8 will assemble in the gym to visit with Mrs. Gavin, Mr. Gillen, and Francis Toal, spouse of James J. Toal. A reception will follow for students in grades 6-8. Students to Attend Mass with the Bishop Eighth grade students will attend Mass with Bishop Jenky at the Cathedral on Wednesday, September 15. They will leave school at 9 a.m. and return by 1:30 p.m. Students are to wear their Mass shirts, gray or navy blue with the school emblem. Thank you to the parents who are assisting by driving. Scrip Order Form Enclosed Enclosed in the blue folder you will find a Scrip order form. Parents must prepay for the scrip they order. Order forms must be returned to school by Friday, September 10. Scrip is excellent for birthdays and Christmas. Parents earn Fair Share points for their purchases. Support the Chicken & Fish Dinner Our first ICS Chicken & Fish Dinner will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall located at 200 S. Sunnylane in Monmouth. The cost of the meals will be $9 for chicken and $10 for fish. Children’s dinners will sell for $4. Drive up will also be available. Serving is 5-7:30 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door. Call to Reserve Your Spot Safe Environment Class The first Safe Environment training class will be held on Tuesday, September 21 at ICS beginning at 7 p.m. The training lasts about an hour. Parents who volunteer in the classroom or want to attend field trips must have completed a Safe Environment class. Please call the school to register for this class, 734-6037 ext. 224. Spirit Cart Items Available for Purchase The ICS Spirit Cart is now stocked and items are available for purchase through the school office. A price list is on the cart and a variety of sizes are available. ICS Spirit wear may be worn on casual Fridays. ITBS Testing Begins For Students in Grades 3-8th On Monday, September 13, the ITBS test window opens for students in grades three through eight. Testing lasts until Friday, September 24. Please read your classroom newsletters so you know the dates your children will be testing. Ensure that they have a good nights rest and a nutritional breakfast. Test results will be shared with parents at the Parent-Teacher conferences held on Wednesday and Thursday, November 3 & 4, from 4-8 p.m. |
