Alumni Achievement Award!
Joseph
E. Cofield '63
Joseph
E. Cofield graduated from Immaculate Conception in 1963. After
graduating from Monmouth High School in 1967, he earned his baccalaureate
degree from St. Ambrose in 1971, and his masters degree in social
work from Boston University in 1981. In addition, he completed
post graduate studies in theology and social work at the Catholic
University of America, Washington. D.C.
Cofields'
professional career includes an extensive 20+ year experience
in development and fund raising activities for such institutions
as Brandeis University, Boston College, Babson College, and Emerson
College. Currently the Chief Executive Officer at the University
of Massachusetts Foundation, Inc. and is responsible for providing
overall leadership and direction for the University of Massachusetts
Foundation, coordinating activities with five campus development
directors and in collaboration with the President of the University.
When
told of his selection, he said,"Jim Toal was in many ways a genius
who attacked life as he did his career with unconventional flair
and restless intellect. In the truest sense a wonderful human
being with a real Christian persona."
The
opportunity to be a member of Immaculate Conception School/Parish
during his 'wonder years' afforded him a unique background and
understanding of the importance of education and the strength
and wisdom to achieve. "The Benedictine Sisters had a very
positive influence on my professional career and personal life.
The Sisters challenged me to be my very best, with their unfailing
support and faith in God helped me to dream, to believe and achieve.
I will always hold a special affinity and identification with
ICS."
Toal
and his wife, Julie, have two sons, Justin and Drew. He enjoys
coaching youth sports, travel and golf. Congratulations to our
first recipient of the James J. Toal Alumni Achievement Awards
